When I finished this film, I was thinking, if I was born in red-light district, how would my life be? Mum, grandma, sister, prostitution; dad, grandpa, brother, friends, drugs, alcoholic. You don’t have a choice cause you born into a mess. But they do know what are they dealing with, they do have feelings, they do want to escape. I was still playing around when I was 10, but those kids came out with these:
"I used to want to be a doctor. Then I wanted to be an artist. Now I want to be a photographer…"
"I want to show in pictures how people live in this city. I want to put across the behavior of man."
"We went to the beach to take pictures. I had never seen the ocean before. I was amazed."
"When I have a camera in my hands I feel happy. I feel like I am learning something…I can be someone."
“Avijit, one of the child photographers in ‘Born into Brothels’, describes a photograph of a poor woman as “beautiful” because it tells the truth.” If you know Aristotle, you will know the relationship between “beautiful” and “true”. The children are so innocent and mature :)
This is one of the photos by Avijit. I still remember in the film, he dump a pail of sand, and took this photo.
I was wondering why am i here? working hard to be a diplomat? to have fun? cause here is the only school i could get in? politics? really? my future career? i was confused sometime. But now, i am glad that i have chosen social science DIP, cause that’s why i know how everything works! i have learnt about diplomatic history which told me how a leader solve a problem and what’s going on in the past; international relations which told me realism, liberalism and that’s all bullshit cause what we need now is cooperation; environmental diplomacy which told me how worth it is to reduce the CO2 emissions because of the earth and thus, every CO2 has its price, CO2 is a market for the future, if a company is worried about the cost of reduction of CO2, don’t, cause it makes money; foreign policy which told why the government is such a inefficient group cause the cost-efficiency, the groupthink, the decision-making is so hell complicated that far beyond what u think it is.
know what u have chosen and love what u have chosen, that’s how u get into it or get rid of it :)
